School of Acupuncture and Moxibustion

Introduction of the Faculty

Integration of traditional oriental medicine with Western medicine For the future of acupuncture and moxibustion, a focus-of-attention technique

Entering the 21st century, acupuncture and moxibustion – a new medical practice with a long history – is attracting increasing attention. Nowadays, a lot of people live in an intermediate health condition, neither completely healthy nor entirely sick, with a vague sense of anxiety about their health. Therefore, this traditional medicine, which is designed to boost our natural healing ability, has a significant role in this era. The essence of acupuncture and moxibustion lies in “treatment in pre-disease conditions” or preventive medicine. In recent years, acupuncture medicine has made significant progress, not just as one of the mysteries of the Orient, but as an important alternative healthcare method supported by scientific evidence obtained from extensive research by our school and other leading universities.

This faculty provides students with a wide range of knowledge and theories in modern science as well as Oriental medicine, clinical training, advice for national examinations, and career guidance. The basis of acupuncture and moxibustion, modern medicine, and clinical practice in acupuncture are provided in the first, second, and third grades, respectively. In the fourth grade, students will participate in clinical training in acupuncture at the acupuncture center of our university to see patients – “acupuncture center training,” and tour the affiliated hospital to learn about the current state of medicine – “hospital training”. In this critical stage of learning, students will also learn about a variety of possibilities and applications of acupuncture and moxibustion including acupuncture treatment for the elderly, pain control in terminal care, and collaboration with sports and Western medicine specialists in treatment.

This faculty provides basic education for students who will promote research at graduate schools, have thair own acupuncture clinics, and work at hospitals as acupuncturists after graduation, and helps them contribute to acupuncture treatment in the future.
